Our story

Croatia called us back.

We are Tanya and Eric, an American couple who spent a year in Croatia with our kids in 2017-18. We returned to Zadar in 2026 to find out what a life here could look like now.

The move took more than a plane ticket. We sold our house in Kentucky and moved farther from our college-age sons. We are learning new routines while staying close to the people we love back home.

About the name

The Bura Wind

The bura is a wind that shifts things. That is what returning to Croatia feels like to us: a change in direction as we build a life here.

We are documenting our own experience. Some days bring a view across the Adriatic. Others bring a Croatian lesson or a form to fill out. All of it belongs to the story.
